Overview

Physics is the fundamental natural science that studies matter, its motion and behavior through space and time, and the related entities of energy and force. It seeks to understand the most basic principles governing the behavior of the universe, from the smallest subatomic particles to the largest cosmic structures. Physics is one of the oldest academic disciplines and, through its inclusion of astronomy, perhaps the oldest. Its discoveries are foundational to all other natural sciences and to modern technology. Modern physics is broadly divided into classical physics, which deals with phenomena at everyday scales, and modern physics, which includes quantum mechanics and relativity.
